Summary
On 1 December 2013, a partial ban of bee-harming pesticides came into force. Now the producers of these pesticides, Syngenta and Bayer, want to overturn this ban before the General Court of the EU.

Legal Progress
The General Court of the EU has already admitted Greenpeace International and other NGOs/nonprofits as intervenors in court. Greenpeace and others have already submitted their Statement in Intervention.

Case background and who The Crowd Versus supports
Syngenta and Bayer asked the General Court of the EU to annul the ban on bee-killing pesticides (neonicotinoids), which came into force on 1 December 2013. If the Court annuls this ban, bees will no longer be protected from the harmful effects of neonicotinoids. In response to Syngenta and Bayer’s action, Greenpeace International will intervene before the General Court of the European Union to support this EU-wide ban. The European Commission adopted the ban on the basis of new scientific evidence of the negative impacts of these insecticides on honeybees. This ban received strong political support from EU governments and must be defended from the attacks of pesticide producing companies seeking only profits to the detriment of our environment.

Greenpeace International is the NGO/nonprofit that The Crowd Versus works together with for this case. In this case, Greenpeace International works together with Bee Life, Pesticides Action Network Europe, ClientEarth, Buglife and SumOfUs.
