Joining in Giving Tuesday Can Do This for Your Charitable Organization
November is not only the month of spending, but also the charitable month of giving.
Giving Tuesday, held the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving kicks off the charitable season in the world. Raising 300,000,000 dollars in gifts for charity in over 150 countries really makes a difference.
Check out how you and/or your organization can join the movement.
(In the United States, Thanksgiving is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November.)
How Giving Tuesday started
This year the Tuesday of November 27th is an important day for fundraisers: it is Giving Tuesday. How did it all start? Back in 2012, New York’s 92nd Street YMCA and the United Nations Foundation decided to work together.
They launched this global movement to engage thousands of organizations worldwide. The U.N. Foundation and YMCA figured the best time to think of others happens during the traditional holidays, during the time when people give to each other. The organizations decided to hold a Giving Tuesday during that same time of each calendar year.
Their aim? A global day of giving fueled by the power of collaboration, activities, and social media noise.
One purpose: bringing charitable change
Still going strong after seven years, Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable season. Many people now focus on their end-of-year giving and plan ahead. Throughout the rest of the year the movement celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy.
It connects individuals, communities and organizations around their one purpose: bringing about change in their communities. You and your nonprofit organization can benefit from this on a local level.
Participating in Giving Tuesday
It is possible to participate in Giving Tuesday in different ways. Individuals, nonprofits, schools, businesses, and other organizations can join the movement. You and your organization should decide if now is the right time for you.
The website of Giving Tuesday provides you and/or your organization with a toolkit for a campaign.
This toolkit includes tips for fundraising or volunteering. You can learn how to collaborate with other nonprofit organizations. The toolkit also provides useful tips for social media and case-studies to inspire your own campaign.
You, The Crowd Versus and Giving Tuesday
Do you want to join our movement? You wish to enlarge the crowd effect and support our cases?
Become an online activist and please engage your (social media) influence to spread the word. Every bit of awareness helps other people think. In this way, your engaging and sharing wherever makes the world better for all of us.
And helping to create that is amazing. Thank you.
